A minimally invasive surgical method for treating many different hernias is laparoscopic hernia repair. Three to four tiny incisions are made during this procedure, and the surgeon is guided by a device known as a laparoscope or a thin tube with a camera on the end. Mesh may occasionally be used to keep the tissues from protruding. Usually, a laparoscopic hernia repair is finished in under an hour. A hernia is a weakness in the muscles that causes a gap to form in the abdominal wall. Due to this weakness, internal organs like the intestines or abdominal tissues can occasionally protrude into the opening. Hernias can result in serious health issues like infection and/or blood loss to the intestine if left untreated. Smaller and less complicated hernias are treated using laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic hernia repair may be an option for patients with the following hernias: Hernias in the ventral, recurrent, and groin regions.
